1979 Redesigned instrument cluster had speedo that
measured in miles and kilometers. Fuel gauge and warning lights with
symbols. New body & interior colors available.
A CRUISING PKG
became available on both Runabouts and wagons, featuring multi-color bodyside
paint /tape treatment and black louvers on the wagons liftgate.
Also a
new ESS option for sedans and Runabouts, w/ black grill and exterior accents,
black-hinged glass 3rd door, wide black bodyside moldings, & sports type
equipment.
Other NEW options included lacy-spoke cast aluminum wheels,
AM/FM stereo radio with CASSETTE, seperate light & convenience groups
(formerly combined), heavy-duty battery, and revised Exterior Decor Group.
STANDARD equipment list grew to includeAM radio, power brakes, electric rear
defroster, & tinted glass. Low-Budget Pony lacked some of these extras.
2.3L I4 standard / V6 optional. OIL CHANGE INTERVALS WERE CHANGED FROM
10,000 MILES, UP TO 30,000 MILES..... The V6 added a higher performance
camshaft, while the V6 auto were meant to offer higher RPM shift points to
improve acceleration.
