New body & interior look New split-cushion “bucket”
style rear seats New options included white-painted forged aluminum wheels
and accent stripe treatment in 4 color combos. New interior colors blue,
jade, tangerine. Seven body colors available as well as vinyl roofs in jade
and chamois. 2.3L remained base. V6 received new light weight plastic
fan Optional rack&pinion steering added a new variable-ratio system
similar to Fairmont/Zephr.
A sports Rallye Pkg incuded: tach,sport
steering wheel, front stabilizer bar, heavy-duty suspension, and 3.18:1 axle
ratio gears. The Rallye Appearance package contained dual racing mirrors,
black front spoiler, gold accent stripes, and blacked-out exterior moldings.
CRUISING WAGON option returned w/ front spoiler, graphic multi-color
paint striping, cargo area carpeting, styled steel wheels, dual sport mirrors,
and steel side panels w/ round tinted porthole windows near the rear.
At
mid-year a PANEL DELIVERY PINTO was added, with full-length flat cargo floor and
metal side panels. Most regular production options were available on the PANEL
Pinto (PLUS rear-window security screen).
